Water Tank Rebates
As the cost of living increases, the Australian Government and several local councils have introduced rebates to all buyers of water tanks as an incentive to purchase and install residential and rural water tanks. Across Australia, a variety of rebates are available depending on where you live, the capacity of the water tank and how the tank is connected to your home.
Although the initial cost of a water tank may seem expensive, with time, they easily make up the purchase and installation cost by continually saving you substantial amounts on your water bills.
New South Wales Rebates
The New South Wales Government has established a $100 million Residential Rebate Program in conjunction with the NSW Government's Climate Change Fund to encourage people to make their homes more water and energy friendly. By purchasing a rain water tank and connecting it to your toilet and laundry, you can receive a maximum rebate of $1500 towards the purchase cost and installation of the tank.
In New South Wales, the current rebate depends on the size of the water tank and where it is connected to. Households that are not connected to the mains supply are eligible for a rebate for the purchase of the tank only.
The following table provides an estimate of the rebates you are eligible to receive when you purchase a new rain water tank and connect it to your residence.

Currently, there are several areas in Victoria that are enduring Stage Three water restrictions. Water restrictions are graded from Stage One (being mild restrictions) to Stage Four (being severe, strict restrictions). Rainwater tanks can easily overcome these restrictions when they are in force and allow you to freely use free rain water whenever you like.
The Victorian Government offers a variety of rebates on water saving products. The following table shows an estimate of the variety of rebates you may be eligible for when you purchase and install a new rain water tank.
